Regardless if you are new to the studio or new to massage. I am here to help!

Prior to becoming a massage therapist in 2020, I had NEVER had a massage. It wasn’t until I started managing a local massage studio in 2018 that I learned truly just how “deep” massage is.

Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress-related. And perhaps nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than high stress. Massage is an effective tool for managing this stress, as well as help specifically address a number of health issues such as:

  • Alleviate low-back pain and improve range of motion,

  • Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body's natural defense system.

  • Stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles.

  • Help athletes of any level prepare for, and/or recover from, strenuous workouts.

  • Lessen depression and anxiety.

  • Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks.

  • Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation.

  • Reduce post surgical adhesions and swelling.

  • Reduce spasms and cramping.

  • Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles.

  • Release endorphins—amino acids that work as the body's natural painkiller.

  • Relieve migraine pain.

  • Your session takes place in the secure, warm, and comfortable studio I offer in my home residence. The studio is in the lower level of my residence separate and private from the rest of the dwelling. The studio includes a lounge area that service as a waiting area, a private bathroom and the primary treatment room which includes the massage table where the therapies are received.

  • Eat a light meal a couple of hours before your massage, as well as hydrate.

Take a hot shower, bath, steam or sauna an hour before arriving. This prepares the muscle tissue to be released smoothly.

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Remove any jewelry.

Arrive 10- to 15- minutes prior to session start time for consult and comfort. This also ensure you appointment starts on time.

    BREATH!

  • That depends on the type of massage or treatment you have scheduled. A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders. There are some modalities, that work on intra oral muscles (inside the mouth i.e. tmj), scalp and/or face. Licensed Massage Therapist do not perform, breast, genital or gluteal crease/fold/crack massages unless specially certified in those modalities and medically prescribed by your medical practitioner. *Your Licensed Massage Therapist is not certified in such modalities.

  • Absolutely not! Although most massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client completely unclothed &safely draped (see next entry); I understand that not everyone is comfortable in that manner. You should undress to your comfort level, whether that means leaving your undergarments on, or completely disrobing. Please be advised that any clothes left on during the session does act as a barrier between the techniques used and the area of concern, it may affect the overall outcome of the session. You can also wear a sports bra, tank top, and shorts. For certain modalities like sports, stretch or postural analysis, athleisure//gym wear is highly encouraged.

  • Absolutely yes! The massage table is covered in a fitted and flat sheet with a thick blanket on top just like home! You will lie between the two sheets with the blanket on top ensuring you will be safely draped during the entire session. Safely draped means that at no point will you be completely exposed, the only areas that will be exposed, are the areas I will be directly working on in that point during the session. To do so I will wrap the flat sheet in conjunction with that body part to ensure no slips or mishaps happen. Properly draping also ensure that you are kept comfortable and warm.

  • Absolutely not! After the initial intake, I will exit the room closing the door behind me. Once that door is shut you may undress down to your comfort level and lay either face up or face down underneath the top sheet and blanket. At the end of the session, I will exit the room closing the door behind me, after you hear that door shut you are more than welcome to come to a seated position, re-dress, and collect your thoughts. I will remain on the other side of the closed door, till you are completely dressed and ready to exit the room. Please be considerate and do not start disrobing till I have left the room.

  • A relaxing Swedish massage is often a baseline for clients. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Often, a light oil is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. The oil also helps hydrate your skin. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting.

  • There are numerous types of massage and bodywork; various techniques utilize different strokes, including basic friction strokes, rocking movement, application of pressure to specific points, posture and movement re-education, and pressure applied via hand help tools like cupping, percussion instruments, or sculpting tools like gua sha. Contrast therapy (hot/cold) can also be applied through stones, packs or towels. We can discuss which methods may be most appropriate for you during your sessions.

  • Breath, Relax & Get Comfortable. Many people choice to close their eyes and get lost in the environment. Communicating when the pressure needs adjusted, or if the area is too painful. You can choose a silent session, or we can converse throughout the session. In some session joint range of motion is either assisted by you with guidance from the therapist or the therapist will gently move an area of the body such as lifting your arm or turning you head for you, try as little as possible to assist the therapist in movement, we'll let you know if we need help (:.

Also feel free to ask any questions about the techniques you are receiving.

  • Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. In rare cases you might experience delayed onset muscle soreness (doms) from the release of taught and bounded muscle fibers, to decrease DOMS we recommend a hot shower, steam or sauna prior to your appointment or a warm Epsom salt soak, ice pack or cold plunge for after.

  • RELAX!

It's best to do nothing and let you body continue to relax and repair.

Massage induces the rest and digest response in the body. So you might be feeling you tummy grumble, eat a nutrient rich meal avoided sugar and processed foods, hydrate and take a nap or go to bed if it's time.

Light stretching, meditation, yin, and restorative yoga are good options but avoid strenuous exercise and heavy weight lifting for at least the next 12- hours.
